We are always looking for new ways to encourage pupils to read so this term we have introduced a fun new initiative called Reading Heroes. At St Matthew’s a Reading Hero is someone who:
• works hard to improve their reading skills
• practices reading at home
• reads different types of books
• encourages others to read
• has read all the books from our Ladybird, Puffin or Penguin list of books
Anyone who manages to read all the books from our Ladybird, Puffin or Penguin list of books will get a special certificate and be able to choose their own copy of one of the books. We have at least one copy of each of book in school but we are encouraging pupils to visit their local library or to borrow the books from friends if we don’t have a copy of the book they would like to read. Any of our younger pupils who wish to take part but can’t yet read can share the book with their parents or carers.
Please remember, this initiative is just for fun to encourage reading and pupils do not have to take part if they don’t want to. If there are any books on the list that you would not like your child to read then we will do our best to seek an alternative book by the same author.Go back to News
